Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center at UM Capital Region Medical Center is a community-based program that promotes the physical and emotional well-being of victims throughout Prince George's County in a private and confidential medical setting.
We offer our services to all victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or economic status. We also counsel families, friends, and partners to help everyone impacted through the healing process.
We offer a safe space to victims of all ages. Whether you or a loved one is looking for help, we are here to respond to your needs.
Our team of trained hotline counselors provide crisis counseling 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether the event just occurred or you are experiencing emotional stress from a past event, our counselors are here to help. All services are free.

Overview of Services
Crisis Counseling and Intervention
Trained counselors provide crisis counseling through our 24/7 help hotline. They quickly assess your situation and offer guidance on medical, legal and community support.
Short-Term Trauma Counseling
Our professional licensed counselors offer individual, family and group trauma counseling during regular office hours. Trauma counseling helps you learn how to cope with the trauma of domestic abuse, sexual assault, sexual abuse or child physical abuse.
Sexual Assault Forensic Exams
Our specially trained nurses perform sexual assault forensic exams, which include evidence collection and specific diagnostic testing and medical treatment.
Victim Advocacy
Our staff can accompany you to medical appointments and court hearings. They work directly with police, social services and the State's Attorney's Office to assist you with the investigative and legal process.
Safety Planning
After assessing your situation, we can provide guidance on protective and peace orders, law enforcement support, legal services, housing, victim compensation, victim financial services, and counseling.
Danger Assessments
A danger assessment uses evidence-based practices to evaluate your risk for further harm in a domestic violence situation.
Referral Information
We can refer you to another service if we can't provide the assistance you need.
Community Education Presentations
This service increases public awareness of domestic abuse, sexual assault and sexual abuse. Our professionals present information on how to prevent abuse and assault, how it affects victims and families, and the myths and facts of domestic violence and sexual assault. Interested community organizations can call 240-677-2337 to learn more or schedule an event.
Many of our services are free of charge, including professional counseling, victim advocacy, community education presentations and sexual assault forensic exams. Federal, state and local grants, along with donations by community supporters and partners, make this possible.
Please note: Though we are grant-funded to support victims in Prince George's County, we generally attempt to serve all victims and patients who come to our center due to the complexity of the geographic region and jurisdictions.

Staff Credentials
Each staff member at the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center holds a bachelor's and/or master's degree in human services, psychology, social work or counseling. They have also undergone specialized training in victim advocacy.
Memberships
The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center holds memberships in several key state advocacy coalitions, including Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault and the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence.
