Internal Medicine

Internal medicine doctors at University of Maryland Capital Region Health Family Health and Wellness Centers focus on adult and senior medical care and help you manage your overall health and wellness, including routine checkups, screenings and preventive care. Internal medicine specialists are primary care providers that focus on adult and geriatric medicine.

Your internal medicine doctor will get to know you and your health history to help you maintain good health. He or she coordinates your healthcare with specialists (such as cardiologists, orthopedic surgeons or others) and maintains your prescriptions to keep you safe.

Treatments

As your health manager, your internal medicine doctor oversees all your care and maintains an ongoing relationship with you and your entire healthcare team. Your doctor:

  • Diagnoses and treats health concerns early, before they become serious.
  • Educates you about how to prevent disease and improve your health.
  • Manages chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or arthritis.
  • Provides preventive care, physicals, routine tests and immunizations (vaccinations).
  • Refers you to specialists when needed.

We’re committed to giving you exceptional care. In fact, we train tomorrow’s physicians in our Internal Medicine Residency Program, a three-year training program for doctors to receive board certification in internal medicine. That means you receive care from both a board-certified doctor and a resident — two doctors who focus on your health and well-being. It’s comforting to know that you and your family receive an extra level of care and support.

Since your primary care doctor plays such an important part in keeping you healthy, it’s important to find a doctor you trust and feel comfortable with. At UM Capital’s Family Health and Wellness Center, our internal medicine doctors take the time to listen and get to know you — that allows us to give you the very best care.
