Pharmacy Safety and Education
To make sure you receive the right medicine at the right time, the pharmacy team is directly involved with all aspects of medication use within University of Maryland Capital Region Health hospitals and departments, ensuring pharmacy safety and education.
We use an automated dispensary system to support safe storage and dispensing of medications. This technology delivers 98 percent of the medicines to patients throughout the hospitals and in the ambulatory surgery center.
To further ensure patient safety, our specialty trained clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians provide oversight and education throughout University of Maryland Capital Region Health.
We monitor and provide:
- Chemotherapy preparation
- Consultations in pharmacokinetics and infectious disease
- Drug information
- Patient and staff education
- Patient specific dosing
- Targeted drug therapy
- Medication histories
Our pharmacy team actively participates in UM Capital’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, which is designed to improve antibiotic prescribing and reduce resistance to antibiotics.
